Why “The Outpost”?
A stronghold for men, out where life actually happens.
Out past the main base
In military terms, an outpost is a small stronghold out past the main base. It’s where people hold the line, look out for each other, rest, regroup and head back out.
That’s what we want for the men of Gateway: a basecamp where we support each other in healing, in mentoring and being mentored, and in learning to live as apprentices of Jesus. A place to get back on track in life with Christ, and help the next man do the same.
How it started
The Outpost was started by a couple of Gateway men. It began with a handful of men on a Monday night, sitting in a circle and being honest with each other.
That honesty turned into brotherhood, and the circle kept growing. There are about twelve of us now, and more are coming.
We’re not experts. We’re men who love God, men who have suffered, and men trying to organise our lives around following Jesus. We’d love you to join us.
What we’re about
Healing
Most of us carry wounds. We’d rather bring them into the light together than carry them alone.
Mentorship
Every man needs someone a few steps ahead of him, and someone a few steps behind.
Apprenticeship
Following Jesus is learned by doing, week by week, alongside other men.
Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love.
Part of Gateway Community Church
The Outpost is a men’s ministry of Gateway Community Church, Perth. It isn’t a separate organisation. It runs under the oversight, care and safeguarding of Gateway’s leadership.
There’s a seat in the circle.
